Birthday Eve

This time 25 years ago, my mom was going to bed not aware of what was going to happen the next night.  She did not know because the little bundle of joy she was having was expected to come four weeks later.  So, the morning of September 26, 1985 when my mom started to feel labor pains, it was very unexpected.  Then, my parents headed up to the hospital to get things checked out.  The doctor told my parents that it was probably false labor but they wanted to keep my mom there to observe her.  So my dad left, went home, and got dressed and ready for the Kiwanis banquet.  He headed over to the First Baptist Church to the dining hall in it's basement to be installed as the club's president.  All of a sudden, my mom's friend busted into the dining hall wearing shorts and a t-shirt to tell my dad that it was the real thing and to get back to the hospital quickly because I was coming and coming fast.  So, in the elevator heading back to the surface, my dad was installed as president.  At the hospital, my mom was rushed into the delivery room.  At 9:34pm, Stephanie Anne Crow was brought into the world.  I was a 5 1/2 pound baby with a full head of black hair.  Afterwards, my mom was hungry...go figure.  She wanted donuts.  The Southern Maid outside of the hospital was closed by this point.  So, my mom's first meal after I was born was donut sticks out of the vending machine.  And people wonder why I love donut sticks so much.  The moral of this story...the best laid out plans never go the way you plan.
